Intelligence Community Collaboration — Post 9/11

Our nation has been attacked, thousands of citizens dead and how do we protect the homeland from further attacks? All aspects of the Intelligence Community were galvanized to protect us and prevent this from happening again but from an era of siloes and independent  operations, how would the law enforcement arm of government work together?

Hendrik van der Meulen will talk about the exceptional collaboration and team work that developed between the CIA and the FBI after September 11th, 2001 in the global war on terrorism, especially unique joint efforts to protect the U.S. Homeland.

Mr. van der Meulen was a Central Intelligence Agency senior executive with extensive experience as a leader and manager of foreign field intelligence operations and Headquarters personnel, budget, resource, and technology management issues. As the Deputy Director of the CIA’s National Clandestine Service (NCS) from 2007 to 2010, and as Chief of the NCS’s Near East and South Asia Division from 2004 to 2007, was a member of CIA corporate boards deciding and implementing strategies and programs in the fields of information technology, technical operations, personnel recruitment and management, budgets, and leadership training. As the Deputy Director of the NCS, helped lead a workforce of thousands of CIA staff and contract officers and helped manage and direct a budget of billions of dollars. Provided briefings to members of Congress and regularly participated as the CIA’s senior representative on a wide variety of substantive and intelligence matters at the National Security Council’s Deputies’ Committee meetings in the White House Situation Room. He has extensive involvement with formulation and implementation of Intelligence Community-wide policies, including information sharing with Defense Department agencies and the FBI, and intelligence collection in the War Zones. He was a CIA officer for 29 years with TS/SCI clearances and current BI and full-scope polygraph.
